Visitor Guidelines

The refuge was established to provide a sustainable habitat corridor and sanctuary for wildlife. Please enjoy your visit and help protect wildlife and habitat by following these guidelines:

  • Respect "Area Closed" signs. Public access is restricted and/or prohibited in sensitive habitat areas.
  • Stay on established roads and trails.
  • Watch for poison oak, black widow spiders and occasional rattlesnakes. Ticks are present from May through July.
  • Avoid approaching, handling or feeding wildlife and moving too close to visible dens or nest sites.
  • Leave seemingly abandoned wildlife alone. If concerned, report the animal's location to staff or a volunteer on duty.
  • Keep dogs at home.
  • Hunting, fishing, canoeing, swimming, biking, horseback riding, collecting or motorized boating are not allowed at this time.

What to wear and bring when visiting the refuge:

  • Sturdy Shoes
  • Hat
  • Long Pants
